Serving Calvert County since 2016.
Most yards don’t fail because someone picked the wrong plant. They fail because water sits where it should drain, or because Southern Maryland clay was never amended before the beds went in. Then the weeds win, the mulch thins out, and a yard you used to enjoy turns into a chore you avoid.
We’re a family-owned landscaping company in Maryland, based at 207 Oakland Hall Road in Prince Frederick and working across Calvert County every day. Owner JD Simms brings over 15 years of hands-on experience. Our crew handles both sides of a property: the design and planting that make it look right, and the mowing, edging and mulching that keep it that way.
Landscaping in Maryland isn’t a franchise territory to us. Most of our work comes from neighbors who saw what we did down the street.

Some companies design and install but won’t come back to maintain. Others mow but can’t design a bed. We do both, so the crew that plants your beds is the crew that prunes them.
Landscape Design and Installation in Maryland
We start with how water moves across your property, then talk about plants. Southern Maryland clay sheds water instead of soaking it up, and a bed that floods in April kills whatever is in it by July. We grade for drainage, amend the soil, and pick plants suited to USDA zone 7a and 7b, humid summers and heavy deer pressure. You see the plan and the maintenance cost before anything gets dug.

Front Yard Landscape Design in Maryland
The front yard is the one everybody sees, and usually the smallest investment with the biggest return. Foundation plantings that frame the house instead of swallowing it. Clean bed edges that hold their line. Seasonal color where it shows from the road. This is where sellers start, and where we turn work around fastest.
Flower Bed and Garden Bed Installation
New beds cut, edged, amended and planted with perennials, shrubs and annuals chosen for the spot and the sun. For existing beds, we handle weeding, pruning, deadheading, dividing and edge renewal.
Mulch Installation Service in Maryland
Mulch is cheap and usually done wrong. Too thin and weeds push through. Piled against trunks and you get rot. We pull back compacted material, redefine the edge, apply at the right depth and keep it off the stems. Most Maryland properties want a spring refresh and a light fall touch-up.
Lawn Mowing, Edging and Aeration
Weekly or biweekly mowing on a set schedule, cut at the right height for the season instead of scalped to stretch the interval. Maryland clay compacts hard, so core aeration matters more here than in sandier places. Aerate and overseed from late August into October, when cool-season grass builds roots before summer tests it.
Seasonal Cleanup and Leaf Removal
Spring means bed cutbacks, edge renewal, first mow and fresh mulch. Fall is the bigger job: leaves off the lawn before they mat and smother it, perennials cut back, beds put away for winter. The debris leaves with us. If a cleanup turns up more than yard waste, our trash removal crew handles the rest in the same visit.
Tree Planting, Trimming and Removal in Maryland
We plant trees sized for what the property can carry in twenty years. For established trees, we trim for structure and clearance, and take down anything dead, diseased or too close to the house. Overgrown lots, brush piles and storm damage get cleared, graded and seeded. Because we also run junk and debris removal, haul-away is included.
Commercial Landscaping and Snow Removal
Offices, retail, churches, HOAs and rental properties across Calvert County. Scheduled mowing, bed maintenance, leaf removal and winter snow clearing, worked around your operating hours. One crew, one invoice, QuickBooks if you need it.
Lawn fertilizer.
Maryland bans lawn fertilizer between November 16 and March 1. Phosphorus is only allowed when a soil test calls for it, or when a lawn is being established or renovated. Fertilizer has to stay 10 to 15 feet back from waterways, and it can’t go down on frozen ground or ahead of heavy rain. These rules exist because Calvert County runoff reaches the Chesapeake Bay, and they carry real fines.
The Critical Area.
Any property within 1,000 feet of tidal water sits inside Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, and a stricter Buffer runs at least 100 feet from the water’s edge. Inside that Buffer, tree removal is generally prohibited unless a tree is dead or hazardous, and grading isn’t allowed at all. Elsewhere in the Critical Area, taking a tree down usually means planting one back.
Calvert County sits on a peninsula, so this applies to a lot of properties here. We check before we cut, and we’ll tell you when a job needs county approval.
Prince Frederick is home base, and we’re across Calvert County every day: Huntingtown, Dunkirk, Owings, St. Leonard, Lusby, Solomons, Chesapeake Beach, North Beach, Calvert Beach-Long Beach and Chesapeake Ranch Estates-Drum Point. We also serve Golden Beach, Deale, La Plata and White Plains.
No two properties here are the same. Waterfront lots deal with salt spray, wind and Critical Area rules. Newer builds in Dunkirk and Owings sit on compacted builder soil under thin sod, which is why aeration does more for them than new plants would.
Whether it’s a full landscape design or just getting the beds back under control, the first step is the same. We look at the property, tell you honestly what it needs, and send a written estimate within 24 hours.

March and April. Cleanup, bed cutbacks, mulch, first mows. Fertilizer is legal again March 1.
May and June. Peak growth. Weekly mowing, bed maintenance, pruning spring bloomers.
July and August. Mow high to shade the roots, water deeply and rarely, skip heavy pruning.
Late August through October. The window that matters most. Aeration, overseeding and new planting.
November. Leaves off before they mat. Fertilizer blackout starts on the 16th.
December through February. Snow removal, dormant pruning, land clearing while the ground is firm.
Fall is when Maryland lawns are actually built. Spring is just when people notice them.
We live here. Our address is on Oakland Hall Road in Prince Frederick, not a call center. When you dial (301) 835-9340, you reach the people who’ll be standing in your yard.

We know the rules for your property. Fertilizer law, Critical Area buffers, mitigation planting. Getting those wrong becomes your problem, not your contractor’s.
Design and maintenance under one roof. Most contractors do one or the other, which is how a good design slowly falls apart.
Free estimates in 24 hours, phones answered 24/7. Storm damage doesn’t wait for business hours.
Discounts for veterans, active military and first responders. Just mention it when you call.
A property that’s gotten away from you isn’t a lost cause. Most of what looks overwhelming is one visit for a crew that does this daily.

It depends on scope, lot size, access and condition. Recurring maintenance is priced per visit on a schedule, one-time work like mulch or aeration is priced by area and material volume, and design and installation projects are quoted after a walkthrough because grading and soil work vary enormously between properties. Every estimate we give is free and comes back within 24 hours, and we confirm the number on site before starting.
Yes, it affects every property owner in the state. Lawn fertilizer cannot be applied between November 16 and March 1. Phosphorus is only allowed when a soil test shows it is needed or when a lawn is being established, patched or renovated. Fertilizer must stay 10 to 15 feet from waterways, and it cannot go on frozen ground or ahead of heavy rain. Homeowners are capped at 0.9 pound of total nitrogen per 1,000 square feet per application. The rules exist because Maryland sits in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, and they carry fines.
Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay Critical Area covers all land within 1,000 feet of tidal waters and tidal wetlands, and a stricter Buffer runs at least 100 feet from the water’s edge. Inside the Buffer, tree removal is generally prohibited unless a tree is dead, dying, diseased or hazardous, and it needs a Buffer Management Plan. Grading in the Buffer is generally not allowed. Elsewhere in the Critical Area, tree removal usually requires replacement planting, and lot clearing is subject to a no net loss standard for woodland cover. We check before we cut, and we will tell you when something needs county approval.
It depends on the work. Landscaping that qualifies as home improvement on a residence falls under the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, and MHIC licensure carries a minimum general liability insurance requirement of $500,000. Separately, any business applying fertilizer or pesticides for hire needs Maryland Department of Agriculture certification plus a business license for that specific activity. Ask any contractor which credentials they hold before they start, and ask for the certificate rather than a verbal answer.
Yes. Driveways, walkways, parking lots and commercial entrances, on seasonal contracts and per-storm calls. Because we run 24-hour service, we are out during the storm and overnight rather than starting once the business day begins. Commercial clients who need lots cleared before opening should set up a seasonal agreement before the first forecast.
