Serving Maryland Homes and Businesses From Our Base in Prince Frederick
Yard maintenance is scheduled care for your whole yard. Our crew mows, edges, weeds the beds, trims the shrubs, clears the leaves and hauls the debris away on a set day. JD’s Landscaping & Junk Trash Removal is a family owned yard maintenance company in Maryland, based in Prince Frederick. We keep yards in shape for homes and businesses across Southern Maryland
The grass is ankle high again by Saturday. Weeds take over the beds by July. Then November buries the lawn in oak leaves and fallen limbs. Most homeowners end up calling one company to mow, another to trim and a third to haul it all away.
We handle the whole yard with one crew. JD’s Landscaping & Junk Trash Removal works out of 207 Oakland Hall Road in Prince Frederick, Maryland. JD started the company in 2018 and brings more than 15 years of hands on experience to every yard we care for.
You get one schedule, one person to call and one bill. We also run junk removal trucks, so the clippings, the storm limbs and that broken grill behind the shed all leave with us. Veterans, active military and first responders get a discount.
Yard maintenance means regular care for everything outside your house, not just the grass. Lawn care focuses on the turf. A cleanup is a one time catch up visit. Landscaping changes how the yard looks. Yard maintenance keeps all of it in shape week after week, so the yard never gets away from you. Many people start with mowing only. Then the beds fill with weeds, the shrubs creep over the windows and the leaves pile up in the corners. A yard maintenance plan handles those jobs before they turn into a lost weekend.
Most plans combine several of these services. You get one written quote for the whole yard.
Most Maryland lawns grow cool season grass like tall fescue. We cut tall fescue at 3 to 4 inches, the height University of Maryland Extension recommends. We never remove more than one third of the blade in one cut. Taller grass shades the soil and holds moisture through the hot weeks of August.
When the cut is light, we leave the clippings on the lawn. UMD Extension calls this grasscycling. The clippings break down fast, feed the soil and can cut your fertilizer needs by about 25 percent. They don’t cause thatch. Learn more on our lawn care service.
Weeds spread fast once they drop seed. We pull them early, clean up the bed edges, remove dead flowers and keep mulch pulled back from plant stems. Your beds look sharp from the street every week instead of only after a big spring push.
Every shrub has its own best month for a cut. UMD Extension advises pruning spring bloomers like azaleas and forsythia right after they flower. It also warns against heavy pruning in fall, because new growth won’t harden off before the first freeze. We follow that calendar, so you keep next year’s blooms.
Fresh mulch holds moisture, slows weeds and makes the beds look finished. We top up thin spots in spring and cut a clean edge so the mulch stays in the bed.
Your plan can include a spring cleanup to clear winter debris and a fall cleanup to clear the leaves before they smother the lawn. See our leaf removal and fall yard cleanup pages for what each visit covers.
Soil packs down over time under foot traffic and mowers. Core aeration pulls small plugs of soil so air, water and seed reach the roots. Late summer to early fall is the best time to seed tall fescue in Maryland, according to the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Read more on our core aeration service.
Summer thunderstorms and fall nor’easters drop limbs between visits. We pick them up, cut them down and haul them off. If the storm leaves a bigger mess, our brush removal service takes it from there.
Yard work slows in winter, but the driveway still has to stay clear. Maintenance customers can add snow removal so one crew looks after the property all year.
We keep up rental homes between tenants, HOA entrances and common areas, church grounds and small business lots. A clean property tells tenants, buyers and customers that someone cares about the place.
Send us a few photos of your yard. We’ll tell you what it needs now, what can wait and what it costs. You hear back within 24 hours.
Most of Maryland drains to the Chesapeake Bay. In Calvert County, most residents live within a mile of a shoreline or a creek that feeds the Bay, according to University of Maryland Extension. Whatever washes off your yard ends up in that water. Good yard maintenance keeps clippings, leaves and loose soil where they belong.
Light grass clippings stay on the lawn as food for the soil. We blow clippings off driveways and streets so they don’t wash into storm drains.
Leaves, limbs and brush leave in our trucks. Every Maryland county sets its own yard waste rules, and we follow them wherever we work. Here is how it works in Calvert County, where our home base sits. The county accepts yard debris at one place only, the Appeal Landfill in Lusby. The resident fee for yard waste is $100.12 per ton as of July 1, 2026. Commercial haulers like us can use only the Appeal Landfill, not the neighborhood convenience centers. Hauling it yourself usually means a borrowed truck and a drive to Lusby.
University of Maryland Extension Master Gardeners run the Bay Wise program. In Calvert County, the local Extension Office takes requests. The program teaches homeowners yard habits that help local water. You can fill out the program’s yardstick and request a visit from a Master Gardener. Regular maintenance makes those habits easier to keep, because the clippings, leaves and bare soil get handled every visit.
Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay Critical Area covers land within 1,000 feet of tidal water, and much of the Southern Maryland shoreline sits inside it. On those lots, we blow leaves and clippings away from the water, never toward it. Burn rules change by county and town. Local rules ban burning yard waste all year in Chesapeake Beach, North Beach and Chesapeake Ranch Estates.
Busy families and commuters. You want your weekends back. We take the mower, the trimmer and the leaf blower off your list.
Older homeowners. Mowing an acre in July heat is hard on anyone. We keep the yard looking the way you like it.
Landlords and property managers. Many leases leave the yard in a gray area. We keep rentals neat between tenants and during leases, so the property holds its value.
Second home and waterfront owners. You can’t see the yard from Annapolis or out of state. We send updates, so you know it’s handled.
Sellers and real estate agents. A mowed, edged yard looks better in listing photos and at open houses. Give us your listing date and we’ll work to it.
Estate properties. Homes that sit empty grow wild fast. We keep the yard in shape while our estate cleanout service handles the inside.
HOAs, churches and small businesses. Entrances, common areas and parking lot islands, scheduled around your hours
Your price depends on a few things.
For a rough estimate, mowing plans in the Baltimore area typically cost between $210 and $420 per month. National lawn-care plans range from about $100 to $410 per month, according to LawnStarter. Maryland yards vary widely, so treat these figures as general estimates—not our prices.
You get one written price before the first visit. The estimate is free, and you’ll have it within 24 hours.

A standard visit includes mowing, edging, trimming around obstacles and blowing off hard surfaces. Most plans also cover bed weeding, shrub trimming, mulch, spring and fall cleanups and debris haul away. You choose what goes into your plan.
Lawn care focuses on the grass. Yard maintenance covers the whole property, including the lawn, beds, shrubs, leaves and debris. Many homeowners choose yard maintenance so one crew handles everything on one schedule.
It depends on lot size, how often we visit, how many beds and shrubs you have and your add ons. Angi lists $210 to $420 a month for mowing plans in the Baltimore area. We give you one written price, free, within 24 hours.
Most Maryland lawns need weekly mowing in spring, when grass grows fastest. Many yards can switch to every other week in midsummer. We check the beds on every visit and time shrub trims to each plant’s best month.
Mowing season in Maryland usually runs from spring into fall. Leaf cleanup runs from late October into mid December. Winter brings storm cleanup and snow removal.
We serve Southern Maryland from our base in Prince Frederick. That includes all of Calvert County plus nearby towns like Annapolis, Leonardtown and La Plata. We don’t cover every part of the state. Call us with your address and we’ll tell you right away if you’re in range.
Wet grass tears and leaves ruts, so we wait for it to dry. We text you the new day and move you to the next open slot.
Yes. Light clippings stay on the lawn to feed the soil. Leaves, limbs and other debris leave in our trucks. Every Maryland county has its own drop off rules. In Maryland, for example, yard debris goes only to the Appeal Landfill in Lusby, so we handle that trip for you.
Yes. We work on a set schedule, so you don’t need to be home. We text you when the visit is done or when something needs your attention.

I was looking for a company to do some cleanup in the flowerbeds in the front of my house and needed help getting rid of some pesky, ugly vines that had taken over. I was overwhelmed by the amount of work, JD came out quickly, took a look, assured me it was a small job and gave me a great price. He was friendly, communicative and reassuring with zero pressure. I’ll definitely be doing business with them again!Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend JDs Landscaping and Junk Trash Removal. They are professional, friendly, punctual, hard working, and very reasonably priced. They are also great at keeping the customer informed. They brought in 3 tons of white rock to deal with an erosion problem under our back deck. The final product is neat and clean and looks great. They also trimmed back some trees for us. I’d use them again anytime. Attached are before and after pictures of their work.Posted on Google![]()
