Fall Yard Cleanup Service

Local Fall Cleanup Service in Maryland

Every fall it goes the same way. The oaks and tulip poplars drop for weeks, the first good rain glues the leaves to the lawn, and the beds go into winter full of dead stems. By the time the last leaves come down, you are looking at a weekend of raking that turns into three.

That is the job we take off your hands. We are based at 207 Oakland Hall Road in Prince Frederick, and we do fall cleanups for homeowners, landlords and businesses across Calvert County and the surrounding Southern Maryland area. We have been in business since 2018, and JD brings more than 15 years of hands-on experience to the work.

Because we also run junk removal trucks, the same crew that clears your leaves can take away the broken patio set, the old grill or the pile of storm limbs behind the shed. Veterans, active-duty military and first responders receive a discount.

What Our Fall Yard Cleanup Includes

Most cleanups combine several of these. You get one quote for the whole job.

Leaf Removal From Lawns, Beds and Hardscapes

A thick layer of wet leaves blocks light and air from the grass underneath. Left through winter, it can leave dead, matted patches by spring. We blow and collect leaves from the lawn, out of the beds, off patios, driveways and walkways, and from along fence lines where they pile up. When the layer is light, we can mulch it into the lawn instead, which feeds the soil.

Flower and Garden Bed Cleanup

We pull spent annuals, cut back perennials that have finished for the year, and clear weeds before they set seed. If you like to leave some seed heads standing for the birds, tell us which ones and we will work around them. For year-round bed care, see our garden bed maintenance service.

Shrub Cutback and Light Pruning

Fall is the time to remove dead, damaged and broken branches and to cut back overgrown shrubs that are crowding walkways or windows. We leave spring-flowering shrubs like azaleas and forsythia alone, because they have already set next year’s buds and a fall cut removes the flowers.

Gutter Leaf Clearing

Leaves that collect in gutters hold water against the roofline and send overflow down the foundation. We clear leaf buildup from gutters as part of the cleanup.

Fall Mulch Touch-Up and Bed Edging

A light top-up of mulch protects roots through freeze and thaw cycles, and a clean edge keeps the beds sharp all winter. This is a touch-up, not a full spring application. For new beds or a full refresh, see our mulch installation service.

Storm Limb and Branch Pickup

Fall storms and nor’easters bring down limbs along with the leaves. We pick up fallen branches and cut them down to haul. For overgrown areas or heavier growth, our brush removal service takes it from there.

Yard Debris Hauling and Disposal

Everything we clear leaves with us on the same visit, unless you want leaves left for your own compost pile. No bags lined up at the curb waiting for a pickup day.

When to Schedule Fall Cleanup in Maryland

In Southern Maryland, most leaves come down from late October through November, with oaks often hanging on into December. That is why the timing of your cleanup matters.

One visit. Best for smaller lots or yards with only a few trees. We schedule it after most of the leaves are down, usually mid to late November.

Two visits. Best for wooded lots. An early pass keeps the first heavy drop from matting on the lawn, and a final pass clears the late oak leaves and puts the beds away for winter.

Fall cleanup also lines up with two Maryland lawn care deadlines:

  • Aeration and overseeding. Cool-season grass roots best when it is seeded from late August into October. A fall cleanup keeps leaves off new seedlings. See our lawn aeration service.
  • Maryland’s fertilizer law. Lawn fertilizer can’t be applied in Maryland from November 16 to March 1. Certified professionals have a narrow, reduced-rate exception through December 1. If your lawn needs a fall feeding, it has to happen before then, and leaves need to be off the grass first.

Where Your Leaves Go in Maryland

We dispose of it properly” doesn’t tell you much. Here is what happens to the leaves and branches we haul from Calvert County properties.

The county accepts leaves, brush, branches and stumps as yard debris at one place only: the Appeal Landfill in Lusby. The resident tip fee for vegetation is $100.12 per ton, effective July 1, 2026. Commercial vehicles, including ours, can drop off only at the Appeal Landfill, not at the neighborhood convenience centers. The county also stopped giving away free mulch at the landfill as of September 21, 2026.

That is why hauling leaves yourself usually means a lot of bags, a borrowed truck and a trip to Lusby. Other Southern Maryland counties set their own yard waste rules, and we follow the rules wherever the job is.

Can You Burn Leaves in Calvert County?

Only with a county burning permit from the Environmental Health Division, between 4 p.m. and midnight, and never from June 1 through August 31. Open burning is banned year-round in Chesapeake Beach, North Beach and Chesapeake Ranch Estates. The full rules are on our brush removal service. For most fall cleanups, hauling or composting is the simpler choice.

Waterfront Property in Maryland? Keep Leaves Out of the Water

Much of the Calvert County shoreline sits inside Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, which covers land within 1,000 feet of tidal water. On those properties, we blow leaves away from the shoreline, not toward it, because leaves washed into the water add nutrients the Bay doesn’t need. Fertilizer also has to stay 10 to 15 feet back from waterways under state law. If you plan any clearing near the water beyond a normal cleanup, read about the Critical Area rules first.

Not sure how many visits your yard needs?

Send us a few photos of the yard and the trees around it. We will tell you whether one visit will do or two makes more sense, and give you a price within 24 hours

Same-Day and Scheduled Fall Cleanup

Some cleanups can’t wait. A house is going on the market this weekend, family is coming for Thanksgiving, or a storm just dropped limbs across the driveway. We keep same-day availability open when the schedule allows, and a weekend call doesn’t sit until Monday.

Most fall work is scheduled, and the calendar fills up in November. Booking in October gets you the date you want.

Who We Work For

Homeowners with big trees. Mature oaks and tulip poplars can bury an acre lot several times a season. We keep up so the lawn doesn’t pay for it.

Older homeowners and busy families. Raking an acre and hauling the bags is hard work. We do it in a fraction of the time.

Sellers and real estate agents. A leaf-covered yard looks neglected in listing photos. Give us your listing date and we will work to it.

Landlords and estate properties. Rentals between tenants and inherited homes that sat empty for a season. We clean up the yard while our estate cleanout service handles the inside.

HOAs, churches and commercial properties. Common areas, entrances and parking lot islands, scheduled around your hours.

I was looking for a company to do some cleanup in the flowerbeds in the front of my house and needed help getting rid of some pesky, ugly vines that had taken over. I was overwhelmed by the amount of work, JD came out quickly, took a look, assured me it was a small job and gave me a great price. He was friendly, communicative and reassuring with zero pressure. I’ll definitely be doing business with them again!

I highly recommend JDs Landscaping and Junk Trash Removal. They are professional, friendly, punctual, hard working, and very reasonably priced. They are also great at keeping the customer informed. They brought in 3 tons of white rock to deal with an erosion problem under our back deck. The final product is neat and clean and looks great. They also trimmed back some trees for us. I’d use them again anytime. Attached are before and after pictures of their work.

I had an estimate done because I hadn’t been on my patio for 2 yrs. I knew it was going to be a difficult task for me to handle alone so I hired JD’s Landscaping & Trash Removal. Thank goodness I did! He arrived promptly, ready for the task, and was very open with communication and very nice! I already referred him to 3 other people! ☺️

Highly recommend! We called and within 30 mins our junk was picked up same day. It was a fair price as well. We would/will use this business again.

What Fall Yard Cleanup Costs

Price depends on five things: the size of the yard, how many trees drop leaves on it, how much bed area needs cutting back, whether the debris is hauled away or left for compost, and how many visits you need. A quarter-acre lot with two maples is a short job. A wooded acre with a dozen oaks takes a bigger crew and more loads.

You get one written quote up front. No hourly surprises once the crew is on site, and no charge for the estimate.

Why Maryland Homeowners Choose JD's for Fall Cleanup

Local, not a franchise. We are a family-owned business on Oakland Hall Road in Prince Frederick, and we work on Southern Maryland yards every week.

Cleanup and hauling in one crew. Leaves, limbs and the junk that turns up along the way all leave on the same visit. No second company, no second invoice.

We know the local rules. Disposal rules, burn rules, the fertilizer cutoff and the Critical Area. We plan around them so you don’t have to.

Honest scope. If one visit will do, we say so. If the back lot needs brush work, we tell you and price it separately.

Straight pricing. The full cost up front, in writing.

Free estimates within 24 hours. Send photos and get a real number back by the next day at the latest.

Satisfaction guaranteed. If the job isn’t right, we come back and make it right.

Discounts for those who serve. Veterans, active-duty military and first responders receive a discount.

How Our Fall Cleanup Process Works

  1. Request your free estimate. Tell us about the yard and the trees. Photos help. You get an estimate within 24 hours.
  2. Walkthrough or photo quote. We look at leaf volume, beds, gutters and anything you want left alone, and recommend one visit or two.
  3. Lock in the price. A written quote before any work starts.
  4. Cleanup day. Leaves off the lawn and beds, plants cut back, limbs picked up, gutters cleared if included.
  5. Haul-away and final walk. Debris leaves with us, and we walk the yard with you before we go.

Fall Yard Cleanup Service Areas in Maryland

Prince Frederick is our home base and our fastest response area. We do not cover all of Maryland. We work across Calvert County and the nearby Southern Maryland towns listed here.

North of us, Huntingtown and Dunkirk have larger wooded lots where mature oaks drop leaves well into December, so two-visit cleanups are common.

Along the Bay, Chesapeake Beach and North Beach have tighter lots, many close to tidal water. Open burning is banned year-round in both towns, so haul-away is the standard choice.

Heading south, St. Leonard and Solomons mix wooded lots with waterfront homes, where we keep leaves out of the shoreline and away from the water.

We also take fall cleanup jobs in Annapolis, Leonardtown and La Plata. If you’re just outside these areas, call anyway. If we can reach you, we will say so, and if we can’t, we will point you toward someone who can.

What is included in a fall cleanup?

Leaf removal from the lawn, beds and hard surfaces, cutting back spent perennials and annuals, removing dead branches from shrubs, picking up fallen limbs, a light mulch touch-up and hauling everything away. You choose which parts you need.

In Southern Maryland, mid to late November, after most leaves are down. Wooded lots often do better with two visits: one in late October or early November and a final pass after the oaks finish dropping.

Not a thick layer. Wet, matted leaves block light and air and can leave dead patches by spring. A light layer can be mulched into the lawn with a mower, and leaves can stay in beds as a thin natural mulch if you like that look

Yes. Everything we clear leaves with us on the same visit. If you would rather keep the leaves for your compost pile, we can leave them in one spot instead.

Calvert County accepts leaves and other yard debris only at the Appeal Landfill in Lusby, with a resident tip fee of $100.12 per ton as of July 1, 2026. Commercial haulers can only use the Appeal Landfill, not the convenience centers

Only with a county burning permit, between 4 p.m. and midnight, and never from June 1 through August 31. Burning is banned year-round in Chesapeake Beach, North Beach and Chesapeake Ranch Estates. Check with the county first, or have us haul the leaves away.

Most perennials can be cut back in fall once they have finished. Some people leave sturdy seed heads such as coneflower standing for winter birds and cut them in spring instead. We will follow your preference.

Yes. We also run a junk removal service, so broken furniture, old grills, tires and other items found during the cleanup can go on the same truck. We price it in the same quote
